THE CRUNCH
Some owners of Amazon's latest Kindles are reporting a light leak problem, with shadows around the edges of the screen or even visible LED strips. The issue is most apparent in dark mode, particularly when the brightness is turned up, and it appears to affect both the plastic and aluminium models in all colours.
The new base-model Kindles have a flush bezel, meaning the screen sits level with the frame for a sleek look. That design may be part of the problem: some minor glowing around the edges could be a byproduct of combining the front lighting with a flush screen. As long as the lights stay on, the leak is easy to miss, but in dim surroundings it becomes noticeable.
