THE CRUNCH

CachyOS has announced support for Epic Games' EAC Linux v2, the next generation of Easy Anti-Cheat support on Linux, making it one of the first, if not the first, distribution to do so explicitly. Epic recently set out new standards and native Linux security features that distributions must adopt before gamers can access EAC Linux v2 games. CachyOS laid out its plans in a GitHub discussion, saying a dedicated linux-cachyos-eac kernel will meet the requirements.

The kernel will be a fully optional, opt-in feature for the desktop environment, a point CachyOS's maintainers were keen to stress. That matters because some of the features EAC Linux v2 requires have proved controversial in Linux gaming circles, and keeping them out of the default setup lets players decide for themselves.

Implementation is not finished yet. CachyOS's developers note the new features have yet to be fully implemented, so the announcement describes a direction of travel rather than a shipped kernel.
