THE CRUNCH

Control Resonant has sold more than 1 million copies roughly three weeks after launch, making it the fastest-selling game in Remedy Entertainment's 31-year history. The Finnish developer announced the milestone this week, with CEO Jean-Charles Gaudechon calling it a "very strong start" for the studio's first self-published release of this scale.

The pace outstrips both of Remedy's previous benchmarks. Alan Wake 2, the former record holder, needed about two months to reach 1 million copies in 2023, while the original Control had sold 2 million by the end of 2020, some 15 months after launch. Remedy hasn't broken out digital versus physical sales or named a leading platform, and no like-for-like figures exist for the original game, so the comparisons rest on milestone timing rather than matched data.

Gaudechon, who took over as CEO in February and previously ran a sports betting platform, recently had to reassure fans worried about a change of direction. He said Remedy will keep building on its two established franchises, Control and Alan Wake, adding there is "a lot more to come from these worlds". The strong sales arrive despite a crowded September release window, though Resonant is also the lowest-rated of the three games, with Eurogamer's three-star review finding it only partly successful at echoing the first game's structure and style.
