THE CRUNCH
Half Human Games, the studio behind Dwerve, has announced Myths from the Maw, a dark cosmic fantasy strategy RPG for PC via Steam. In it, you lead a band of mercenaries into the Maw, a colossal spacefallen fortress, battling rival warbands and eldritch horrors while sacrificing blood to alien gods for power.
The hook is corruption: mercenaries accumulate sin points on and off the battlefield, whether from blood sacrifices, kills, certain decisions or failed checks. High corruption manifests as sinful traits that change behaviour, so hopeless mercenaries flee fights while gluttonous ones automatically consume supplies. Founder Percy Legendre IV described the game as "basically our love letter to Dante's Inferno", saying every choice costs something and shapes who your mercenaries become.
Combat is turn-based, with each skill carrying its own intricate area-of-effect pattern. Players position carefully to avoid danger while striking multiple foes, use move-attacks such as Dashing Slash or Leaping Smash to reposition, and apply knockback, pulls and immobilisation to control the battlefield and line up devastating strikes. A Kickstarter campaign is planned for 2027.
