THE CRUNCH

ASUS has announced that the ROG Rapture GT-BN98, a quad-band WiFi 8 gaming router, is now shipping. The company claims up to 25,000 Mbps of bandwidth and says the router is aimed at busy homes where gaming, streaming and smart home devices compete for bandwidth.

The router is built around WiFi 8, the next wireless standard, which ASUS says shifts the focus from raw peak speed to consistency. It supports new MCS rates, UEQM and NPCA, technologies intended to improve throughput and coverage, and the company claims this reduces sudden speed drops and keeps performance steadier over distance.

ASUS positions the GT-BN98 for households juggling gaming, streaming and smart home devices at once, arguing that predictable connectivity under heavy load matters more than headline numbers. The router also offers what the company calls intelligent bandwidth optimisation and enhanced network visibility.
