THE CRUNCH

MediaTek and its subsidiary Airoha Technology are showing off their Wi-Fi 8 credentials at Network X 2026, headlined by the Filogic 8800, a high-performance tri-band flagship router platform pitched at enterprise-grade networking and AI applications. The demonstration covers fixed and wireless broadband technology spanning Wi-Fi, 5G CPE and PON solutions.

The company, together with its subsidiary Airoha Technology, is also demonstrating 5G CPE and PON (passive optical networking, the fibre-to-the-home kit) solutions aimed at emerging AI applications and services. MediaTek positions itself as one of the leading companies in Wi-Fi 8 development and commercialisation, based on its work with the wider network communications ecosystem.

Unlike earlier Wi-Fi generations that chased peak speed for a single device, MediaTek says its Wi-Fi 8 work prioritises how networks behave in real homes and offices, where Wi-Fi 5 through Wi-Fi 8 devices must coexist for years to come. The Filogic 8800 claims cross-generation network optimisation, AI-powered dynamic energy saving and smart network diagnostics, with overall system throughput up by as much as nearly 100% and system power consumption cut by 50%, even with new and legacy devices connected together. These are vendor claims from a trade show demonstration, not independently verified figures.
