Cloudflare consolidates its developer tools while AI assistants gain eyes and ears, and hardware makers chase the midrange market.
Cloudflare is streamlining its developer platform by merging scattered observability tools into a single interface. The update brings logs, traces and analytics together, allowing users to investigate HTTP events, firewall logs and Workers in one place. The company is also launching a unified SQL API to let agents query telemetry across its services using a single dialect. This reduces the friction of tracking issues that span multiple products, such as a spike in errors that could stem from a Worker, origin or edge connectivity.
Cloudflare has also renamed its data platform to Basin and made it generally available. Basin is a serverless analytics stack built on Apache Iceberg and R2 storage, designed to separate storage and compute. The platform offers zero egress fees, meaning developers pay nothing to move data out of Cloudflare's network. Basin uses a usage-based pricing model with no hourly charges, making it cost-efficient for both hobby projects and enterprise workloads. Early adopters have already migrated to Basin to replace more complex setups.
Google is rolling out Guided Vision in Gemini Live to offer real-time audio descriptions of what the camera sees on compatible Android devices. By sharing the camera feed, the AI can read small text, describe surroundings and identify objects. The feature is designed for people who are blind or have low vision, joining similar tools like Apple's VoiceOver Live Recognition for iPhone and Vision Pro. Real-time camera descriptions could make small text and nearby objects more accessible to users who need assistance.
Cloudflare has announced that its AI Search service is now generally available. The platform combines Workers AI, Vectorize, R2 and Browser Run to power search for websites and internal documentation. As part of the launch, Cloudflare has expanded support for multimodal formats beyond text, adding native image embeddings and optical character recognition for PDFs. This allows users to search for visual details and scanned documents, such as finding a bird with similar markings or matching a screenshot by visual characteristics.
Nvidia's RTX 5070 has seized the top spot in the Steam Hardware Survey, displacing the long-running RTX 3060 with a 6.15% market share. The card's popularity grew by 2.38% month-on-month, while the former leader fell by 0.26%. The RTX 5070's rise to the top is notable because it is a midrange card, which typically occupies this position. The article suggests that prebuilt systems could be a significant factor in this growth, as system integrators may offer better pricing for these cards.
Nacon has launched the Revolution 5 Unlimited, an officially licensed PlayStation 5 controller with a built-in screen. The device allows users to adjust settings and mix audio from a phone and the console simultaneously. When using headphones connected to the controller, you can listen to music from your phone and sounds from the game at the same time. The audio mixing feature offers a practical way to stay immersed in games while keeping up with notifications or music from your phone, without needing extra hardware.
