THE CRUNCH
EA Sports FC 27's most touching new addition, according to Eurogamer's review, is a mode called The Grounds: an online social hub where your custom avatar can roam and rise. What makes it touching is not the play, which lets you challenge other players to rounds of Rush football, but the look.
There are three open hub areas to explore, styled on the UK, Paris and Argentina. The streets are clean and cluttered with bustling NPCs, punctuated by luminous white-domed kiosks that the reviewer compares to an artist's impression of an upcoming Heathrow terminal. The Rush matches themselves carry echoes of Volta and Fifa Street.
The reviewer suggests the developers at EA Vancouver and EA Romania may be paying homage to PlayStation Home, noting that there too you wandered odd streets and glassy booths in store-bought clothes, played mini-games against other players, and felt the looming threat of a shutdown.
