THE CRUNCH

Publisher ambr and developer Santa Studio, a subsidiary of Santa Sunrise, have announced Laica, a first-person 3D survival horror game built in Unreal Engine 5. It is set to launch for PC via Steam in spring 2027.

The premise splits your time in two. You wake up in HOME, a habitat drifting in space, where a girl named Laica lives entirely alone. Daily life involves sharing meals, listening to music and floating through zero gravity together, while expeditions take you into a dark, warped world prowled by grotesque creatures. The developer describes a loop between the two: explore, return, spend time with Laica, and repeat, with the story advancing each cycle.

The hook is that the calm does not last. As you cross between the worlds, anomalies begin to surface in HOME itself, and in time Laica begins to be consumed by whatever is eating away at space. The game promises an ending shaped by your choices, with the truth about Laica and the world coming into view as your bond with her deepens.
