THE CRUNCH
Valve looks to be widening the performance data it shares with Steam developers, according to a post on the Steamworks developer news blog. Frame rate information, previously offered as optional reporting for Steam Deck games, is being expanded to show player experience: developers will be able to access frame rate data as a distribution, revealing what percentage of players run their game at particular frame rates.
With the expanded data, developers who publish on Steam will be able to access frame rate data as a distribution, effectively showing what percentage of players run the game at certain frame rates. Valve says it is starting with the Steam Deck as a known system configuration, which makes the data easier to interpret and gives Steam a basis to iterate on the performance data it collects.
The figures will be anonymised averages and distributions, sitting alongside the previously available Steam Verified feedback. Valve began expanding developer-facing performance information in early 2026, starting with optional frame rate reporting for Steam Deck games and system specifications in user reviews.
