THE CRUNCH
Story-driven survival horror adventure The Road of Dust and Sorrow launches on December 3 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, Switch and PC via Steam, publisher Silver Lining Interactive and developer Painted Black Games have announced. The pixel art game is inspired by '90s horror classics such as Resident Evil and Silent Hill, and follows Katherine and her daughter Ava as they search for safety in a world ruined by a failed famine cure that turned people into feral creatures called Dusters.
Gameplay centres on exploration, environmental puzzles and surviving encounters with the Dusters while protecting Ava, with the story told through linear, side-scrolling play. The setting is a fallen civilisation of abandoned streets, barricaded homes and rapidly returning vegetation, stalked by a Preacher and his cult, who the game's description says see humans as fertile soil.
